Review: Gold Slam Tennis
Gold Slam Beta 2 Started last night and I can say that I was really excited to start playing again. The game is really fun and is one of the few free games that I have throughly enjoyed my time spent. Gold Slam is made by Aeria Games, the people who brought you Shaiya and a few other popular free games. Gold Slam Beta 2 is going on until August 4 so go get the game and lets play some tennis!
Right now there are only 4 characters that you can choose from.
- Celene, the net player.
- Monica, the female all-rounder.
- Eugene, the male all-rounder.
- Hendrick, the baseliner.
The players are all balanced and none are better than any of the others but some are more tailored for different play styles. I normally tend to pick a player that is better in an area where I am weakest in so that my skill balances out with the racials of the characters.
There is an item shop where you can buy new clothes, rackets, shoes, and accessories with money that you earn playing. You start off with enough money to buy a new racket, new clothes, shoes, and one accessory. The rest you will have to pick up as you go.
There are two different game modes, singles, doubles, and tag team. I haven’t played tag team but they are just single games where you can swap out with other people.
There are four different shot types that allow for you to do pretty much whatever you want with the ball. You can do a Flat shot for power. You can slice it to try and curve it around a net player. You can put topspin on it or lob it up in the air. You can also turn a slice into a drop shot to stop a player playing in the back. There is the ability to smash if someone hits a soft shot so you can eat it up and get a ponit most times. NOM NOM NOM!
So far in the Beta the only problems I see is that people always hit the ball in bounds. I try to hit it out of bounds on the side and it won’t go. There is also a problem with people hitting balls that go past them because of server lag but that is just the type of thing that will be fixed in the Beta.
So far I would have to say that you should try the game out, it seems to be really fun and challenging.

Although we have been friends for a long time, I didn’t want to embarrase myself with my lack of tennis technique. So I decided to get myself a bit of help before our first session. I “kinda” dissapear of the radar for a couple of weeks. The reason, I was training with an amazing series of oline videos on how to learn to play tennis.
To my amazement and his, my first class with him wasn’t bad at all. He immediately noticed that I had had “some help” so he asked what I did. I mentioned the videos, he took a peek and was quite impressed.
I am far from perfection, but I have been doing quite well.
