There are many ways to play video games and each have their own benefits and drawbacks. I happen to be a PC gamer just because it is easier to play games on the computer for me as the computer is where I work, but I also understand the importance of console game systems. Consoles always seem to have a more planned out story line and they each offer something special.
The XBOX 360 offers competative online play with XBOX Live, pair that with decent graphics and you have quite an entertaining setup. I have an XBOX 360 and normally would like to play it, but it is currently in Iraq with one of my best friends who got deployed late last year. The XBOX 360 also plays High Definition DVDs like a champion.
The Nintendo Wii is probably the most entertaining of all the consoles and PC systems just because of the social aspect of it. We regularly hook up the Wii in the student center on the high def projector and play rock band, tennis, or bowling. It is a lot of fun and lots of people like to join in and have a good time. Girls too!
The Playstation 3 is currently the cutting edge gaming console just because it is such an impressive machine. The graphics are breathtaking and with the new controller, it allows for quite an enjoyable experience, I just cant wait for Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of Patriots to come out and then I might buy one.
Now to my baby, the PC. The PC is the jack of all trades, it is social, but not as hands on together social as the Wii. The graphics are stunning, but not always as great as graphics can be on the PS3, and the community and competition online are better than that offered by XBOX Live. The latter is the one that I care about the most.
Pick your poison. Online gaming (XBOX), graphics (PS3), community (PC), or interaction (Wii). There is a system to suit your needs and you should pick the one that you like the best.
What do you use your console or PC for when you game? What is your favorite aspect of gaming? What actually makes you a gamer? Post a comment and express your opinion!
Thanks for sharing your thoughts. I am a console gamer just because of the cost associated with maintaining a PC that can play the latest games decently. I used to PC game a bit but then I started getting into Macs, and well you know where that goes. So I have a Wii and a projector and it’s fun. Especially when I have Wii parties.
@Paul: Thanks for the comment, and I do agree that PC Gaming is more expensive and I feel you on the Mac issue, if gaming wasn’t native to Windows.. I can only dream. On a different note, thanks for making skribit and I <3 your blog!
