Death Cab for Cutie

I am from the south so naturally I like many different types of music. From T.I. to Dierks Bentley, I listen to it all. Recently I started hearing this song on the radio called “I Will Possess Your Heart” by Death Cab for Cutie, an indie-rock group from the Oregon/Washington area. I was pleasantly surprised by the beautiful vocals and immaculate beat that accompanied the song. Naturally, I went out to my local music store and scooped up the latest album from Death Cab for Cutie called Narrow Stairs.

For a little background on DC4C, I turned to Wikipedia to see how long they have been around and what they have accomplished over their careers. The intro for the Wikipedia page follows.

Death Cab for Cutie (simply refered as Death Cab, by fans) is an American indie pop rock band formed in Bellingham, Washington in 1997, though some of its members are from Portland, Oregon. The band takes its name from a satirical song of the same name, written by Vivian Stanshall and performed by the Bonzo Dog Doo-Dah Band on their 1967 album Gorilla and in the Beatles‘ experimental movie, Magical Mystery Tour.[1][2]

Death Cab for Cutie began as a solo project of Ben Gibbard, now the band’s vocalist and guitarist. The band’s first album, You Can Play These Songs with Chords, was released as a demo, leading to a record deal with Barsuk Records.[3] It was at this time that Gibbard decided to expand the project into a complete band, and recruited band members to join. The band has released eight albums to date. Their most recent album, Narrow Stairs, was released on May 12, 2008 in the United Kingdom[4] and was released on May 13, 2008 in the United States.

In addition to Death Cab for Cutie, Gibbard and guitarist Chris Walla are both involved in side projects. Gibbard formed the band, The Postal Service, with Jimmy Tamborello and released the album Give Up in 2003. Walla has also released solo work under the moniker Martin Youth Auxiliary.

Death Cab’s newest album Narrow Stairs was released in the United States on May 13th. I picked up a copy about a week ago and after listening to it, I find that I really like some of the songs. This comes to a suprise to my friends and family because normally the only thing I listen to is Rap/R&B just because I love the beats behind the songs.

Side Note: You may have noticed that I have taken most of the Google Adsense ad’s off the page, you may see one be rotated in every now and then, but I took them down because my target demographic doesn’t really click ads and I want this site to atleast be able to cover it’s hosting. So I swapped to Adbrite and will try out their services. The advertising doesn’t really matter to me right now as much as writing good articles and building my readership up, but it’s never too early to start.
